Thai Yoga Therapy Session

Suspend whatever ideas you may have about hatha yoga because a Thai Yoga Therapy session is beyond those perceptions.

I said those exact same words about Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, never dreaming that I would stumble across yet another form of yoga therapy where the same description would apply! Thai Yoga Therapy is more than just another form of one-on-one yoga. By studying with world-renown teacher, Saul David Raye, I was able to gain glimpses into the wisdom that pervades this ancient healing modality.

Thai Yoga Therapy combines rhythmic massage, acupressure, supported stretches, gentleThaiYogaTherapy-HipStretch twisting, energy work and meditation. The intention behind the session is to stimulate and balance the flow of healing energy within the body, opening the areas which are blocked, thus bringing you deeper into balance and harmony for health, happiness and well-being. In doing so, it deepens the connection between mind, body and spirit.

It is hard to depict in a photograph, but rhythmic massage, acupressure, supported stretches, energy work and meditation are all happening during the hip stretch demonstrated at the left. Simultaneous, there would be a gentle push of your bent leg in the direction of your face (supported stretch), while my outside hand uses acupressure (acupressure and energy work) to work the energy channel along the back of your thigh. Most people describe the sensation as a rhythmic massage. While this is happening, you are simply focusing on the developing, deepening sense of relaxation (meditation = focusing on what is going on in the moment). The final element (gentle twisting) is demonstrated in the photo below.

Thai Yoga Therapy originated in India over 3,000 years ago, with roots in hatha yoga, ayurvedic medicine and Buddhist loving-kindness practices. It is based on the Eastern belief that all life consists of energy (prana in Sanskrit, qi or chi in Chinese.). Familiar terms, such as Yin/Yang or Sun/Moon or Shiva/Shakti, describe the fundamental concept that synergistic and yet opposing energies exist in balance within each of us. As energy channels get blocked, the resulting imbalances are experienced as dis-ease of the mind, emotion, spirit or physical body. Health is restored as energy is allowed to move freely, so that all systems within the body can function in harmony. A Thai Yoga Therapy session uses rhythmic massage, acupressure, and supported stretches to release energy blockages.Thai Yoga Therapy quoteThai Yoga Therapy is very different from other forms of yoga therapy. I've ThaiYogaTherapy-TwistingBackStretchseen it described as a dance between the practitioner and the client. Amazingly, as the practitioner, I experience much of the same energy clearing and stretching that you do in the session. Every time I do a session, it reaffirms that I am capable of strength, awareness and presence beyond what I usually perceive. I marvel that my clients leave having a personal experience with authentic deep relaxation. Once experienced, you will never forget it. I've provided some articles too, if you prefer to review external sources before signing up for a session.

I schedule private sessions during the "Available for Private Yoga Therapy Sessions" slots noted on the calendar. Be aware that the calendar reflects my general availability on a weekly basis, but does not reflect sessions I have already booked. Please contact me if you would like to schedule a session.
