Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) Session
Suspend whatever ideas you may have about hatha yoga because a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT) session is beyond those perceptions.
Yoga therapy is a growing limb in the world of hatha yoga that emphasizes
slow, mindful movement with awareness of spinal alignment. In the presence of persistent mental or physical tension, the body can misshape itself - fostering a cycle of mindset, behavior, and even, illness. Mindfully relaxing and realigning the body through yoga therapy can break this cycle and promote healing.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy differs from other styles of yoga therapy - most noticeably, by the absence of prescriptions and diagnosis. PRYT is based on the belief that we each know what is best for ourselves, our families, our work and our lives, but in the confusion of busy schedules, differing advice, opinions, and research, we sometimes forget how to access that knowledge. Knowing those answers may not be enough because our bodies have been conditioned over time to behave and react a certain way. PRYT sessions encourage clients to physically and mentally relax so deeply, they are able to clear their minds of clutter and create room for insight. Sessions have proven effective in helping clients work through problems, in coming to terms with decision points, and in letting go of things that are holding them back in life.
There are some additional reasons why a private PRYT session is uniquely different than other forms of yoga therapy. One major difference is that the client does not need to know anything
about yoga. As the practitioner, I use my body to move the client into different gentle, fully-supported stretches as demonstrated by the photo of a back release to the right, and the sideways hip stretch above - all the client needs to do is simply relax, focus on their breath and let me do the work - as they would during a massage. Another major difference is the incorporation of active listening techniques, which encourage the client to verbalize and explore what they are experiencing in that particular moment. Lastly, the corporate, professional side of me appreciates that, in each session, the client defines a problem to explore and leaves with a personalized action step to bring what they learned into their daily life.
