Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is based on the belief that we each have our own answers to situations that we encounter in life, and that those answers are contained within our bodies. Because your body has been an active participant in every event, emotion, behavior and experience that has ever happened to you, it is a source of reliable information about your choices, your preferences, your history and your beliefs. Looking inward for clarity or confirmation on what is right for you is psychologically empowering as it minimizes second-guessing.

Consider this example ... your best friend volunteers you to help with an upcoming fundraising event. You may view that opportunity with excitement - smiling with delight at the opportunity to spend some time together. Or you may view that same opportunity with dread - stomach churning at the thought of adding yet another obligation to an already full schedule. Same event, and yet very different physical reactions based on your perspective of the situation.
Your excitement in the first scenario is a clear validation of your course of action. However, in the second scenario, different outcomes exist. In the absence of listening to your body's response, you may simply think, "What is with that stomach ache? Must have been something I ate", pop a few anti-acid tablets and take on the assignment. But, by recognizing that a churning stomach is your body's signal that volunteering this time around may not be the best course of action, you now have choice and thus, empowerment in how to proceed. In someone else, the body signal may be different ... a splitting headache or tight, hunched shoulders in response to taking on more responsibility. Or maybe your own reaction is completely different because this occurs in the spring instead of near the holidays, when your availability is limited. Only you know what is best for you at this moment ... you just need to access that information.
Given the strong, incredibly complex connection between mind and body, consider the possibility that your persistent headache or ever-present heartburn or that feeling of being 'stuck' is your body's way of communicating vital information to you about your choices, your behavior and your perspective. Medicine simply masks that communication, without resolving the underlying cause. However, by tuning into this valuable information, you can move forward in your life with more choices and empowerment.
Though Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is usually done as a one-on-one private session, no amount of words can do the experience justice. It is so personal, so customized and so unique from session to session, from client to client. Recognizing this, A Taste of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Workshop is an opportunity for me to facilitate elements of this powerful modality in a group setting. By the end of this introductory workshop, you will have an opportunity to:
- Understand the form, structure, and some of the techniques that comprise a one-on-one private session;
- Validate through your own experience the power of looking inward for answers

- Validate through your own experience whether this healing modality resonates with you, so you can make a personal choice about pursuing private sessions.
